Our Team

Amit Garg
Amit worked as a teacher in Jagriti Vihara (the NGO that Hospital for Hope serves) in the summer of his freshman year, in 2000. He has been connected to them since and helped raise funds to build a library and a high school lab, start a course in college to prepare students for volunteer work, and sent 30 peers to India over the course of 4 years. Amit believes in sustainable development and has co-founded a program to teach computer skills to disadvantaged high school students, volunteered for many years at hospitals, co-founded a social enterprise to promote literacy, and been honored with the James W Lyon Award for his commitment to leadership and service. Amit did his undergraduate and masters at Stanford focusing on technology and life sciences, was a product manager and business analyst at Google, and is currently a MBA candidate at Harvard Business School. He was born and raised in Vitória, a city on the southeastern coast of Brazil, and is a die-hard fan of Brazilian soccer.

Arthi Chakravarti
Arthi is a member of Hospital for Hope, and has participated in various community service activities for over 10 years.  She, along with classmates at Stanford University, pioneered the first student-led service-learning course at Stanford University, and helped organize service-learning programs in India for students at Stanford University.  Arthi has her bachelors and law degree from Stanford University, and is currently an attorney at Morrison & Foerster.  In her spare time, she loves watching off-beat films.

Golda Philip
Golda volunteered at Jagriti Vihara the summer after her freshman year at Stanford and helped organize the student group that continues to send undergraduates to volunteer in India.  After graduating with a degree in Cultural and Social Anthropology, she worked on immigration policy in Boston, after which she completed a dual law degree and a Masters in Public Health.  She then served as a Health Fellow at the National Women’s Law Center where she worked on a variety of issues concerning women and health care reform.  Golda currently works at the Office for Civil Rights at the United States Department of Health and Human Services in Washington D.C.  Golda is passionate about many things including reforming our health care and immigration systems, creating and consuming good food, and engaging in lively conversation.

Melanie Kannokada
At Stanford, Melanie studied Mechanical Engineering while taking part in a number of social entrepreneurship initiatives. She volunteered at Jagriti Vihara the summer after her freshman year and is thrilled to continue work for the NGO through Hospital for Hope. During her time at Stanford she served as the Student Body President her final year, was selected as a Mayfield Fellow,  and received the Book Award for her service and contribution to the University. After graduation, she worked as a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company before leaving to pursue her passion in the arts. Currently residing in New York City, she is a full time actress and television host.

Neil Kothari
Neil has served as a community worker with various non profits focused on alleviating urban poverty while an undergraduate and afterwards. While in college, he was a teacher with SUPPORT in Mumbai, working with homeless children.  He also worked in Ahmedabad with SAATH which provides education, services and infrastructure for slum dwellers. Neil did his undergraduate in Computer Science from Stanford, was a financial analyst with Goldman Sachs and BlackRock and is currently pursuing an MBA at the Wharton School.

HFH BOARD


Adam Tolney
Adam is a successful social entrepreneur who has built and run educational programs in 14 countries (see Learning Enterprises: www.learningenterprises.org, The Learning Foundation India: www.tlfi.org, and The Educated Consumer Project: www.ecponline.org). Educated at Harvard College (B.A.), The London School of Economics (M.Sc.), Harvard University (M.A.) and Georgetown University (Ph.D.) he was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company for a number of years and a fellow of the Digital Vision Program at Stanford University prior to devoting himself full time to social entrepreneurship.

Netika Raval
Netika is currently focused on applying learning/education to problem-solve local practical issues through games/socialmedia. She has been the founding board member of Network of Indian Professionals (NetIP - Bay area chapter), board member and patron of India
Community Center (ICC) and President of Asha for Education. In 2006, she traveled through 4 states and 10 cities in India for 6 months living on less than $2/day to connect with community issues, experience real challenges faced by the common person and understand practical local community based solutions. Netika did a bachelors at Maharaja Sayajirao University, a masters at The University of Hull, and was a fellow of the Digital Vision Program at Stanford University.
